Nikan Ompa is an ensemble dedicated to dissident vocal music.
Its name, which means "from here and elsewhere" in the Nahuatl language, embodies its exploration of the rich musical traditions of Ibero-America and their connections to the ancient music of Europe.
A pioneer in the interpretative research of polyphonies from the oral tradition of Mexico, the ensemble brings them into dialogue with the vocal repertoires of the Renaissance and Baroque, and with new creations inspired by these worlds.
Each of Nikan Ompa's programs is an evocation of the voices of the past and a tribute to the voices of the present, transporting the audience across continents and eras.
